The role of Staff Captain :

As a Carnival UK Staff Captain you will truly have the feeling of being part of something, working alongside passionate people from all walks of life, in a tight-knit but hugely professional crew. You'll uphold the highest standards of safety, security, health, welfare, and environmental practices for our prestigious brands with a great British seafaring heritage.

The Staff Captain is the head of the Deck Department and Second in command. We are looking for someone who thrives in a leadership role, able to deliver a safe and successful operation whilst installing confidence and pride in their subordinates.

You will also be required to work collaboratively with the wider shipboard operation and shore side colleagues in supporting and driving the company operational strategy, safety culture, change management and associated team development strategies.

We expect our Staff Captain's to champion environmental compliance and be up to date with the latest environmental legislation and support SMT with enforcement of the safe working practices. The Staff Captain also has overall responsibility for matters regarding safeguarding and security, making sure they are up to date and review ship's security plan at regular intervals.

We are looking for people who have the following background or qualification criteria:

  • Master Unlimited (II/2)
  • Experience of varied class of ships and itineraries desirable Cruise Ship Experience Essential
  • Strong leadership skills, motivating and driving others towards excellent performance
  • Resilient and calm under pressure, maintaining focus and energy levels even under sustained pressure
  • Has high levels of knowledge in all aspects of the operation of the cruise ship, and takes responsibility for keeping their expertise up to date, ensuring that their knowledge is shared for the benefit of the cruise Is both a strategic and commercial thinker, and a skilled tactician, and knows when to use these types of thinking to ensure the smooth operation of the cruise
  • Enjoys taking responsibility and is happy to be held accountable for their decisions, prioritising the safety and welfare of crew and passengers above all other considerations
  • Decisive and flexible, able to quickly assess the appropriate approach to an emerging issue or take preventative action to prevent a scenario escalating
