TNO at Holst Centre works with a range of pre-pilot level thin-film and battery production technologies that have very interesting potential in the fast-growing domain of Next-Generation Energy Storage. The aim is to employ the unique thin-film background of Holst Centre and the state-of-the-art pre-pilot battery production line to contribute to the development & production of next generation battery technologies such as high-voltage lithium (sodium) metal batteries, solid-state-batteries and metal-air batteries.

TNO at Holst Centre works closely with the, local and international, ecosystem of battery (component) producers on the development of these types of functional devices. The aim of the program is to accelerate the much-needed energy transition while concurrently increasing the earning power of (high-tech) companies active in this domain.

In order to translate new process technology into tangible battery concepts new functional architectures - in coin and pouch cell format -, and to strengthen project management capacity in the next-generation batteries team, we are looking for a researcher as an addition to our existing battery team.

Functie-eisen

You will join the Thin-Film Electronics team to develop and realize the department's program and project portfolio in Next-Generation Battery Technology, leveraging Holst Centre's strengths in thin and thick film process technology and related technologies. Your daily activities will be varied since you will join a multidisciplinary team that executes multiple programs and projects with partners in the academia and business in parallel. Your technical tasks will include leading and executing projects on development of advanced materials and device concepts for next-generation batteries, battery materials and components. The emphasis will be on understanding and optimizing the battery chemistry, inter-component stability and battery component production, mainly aimed at improving performance and sustainability at battery cell level.
