Job Description

Role: GitHub SME/Architect
Location: Remote (Must be UK-Based)
Duration: 6 months - Outside IR35

GitHub SME Responsibilities

  • Ownership of GitHub Enterprise.
  • Expert Guidance: Serve as the go-to GitHub expert, providing insights and best practices for repository management, branching strategies, and workflow design.
  • Training and Enablement: Deliver training sessions, workshops, and documentation to empower teams to effectively leverage GitHub features.
  • Compliance and Governance: Implement policies for repository access, code reviews, and approvals, ensuring alignment with security and governance standards.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with development teams, DevOps engineers, and stakeholders to understand their needs and deliver tailored solutions.

GitHub SME Requirements

Essential:

  • Extensive experience with GitHub, including Enterprise-level subscriptions.
  • Great understanding of Security and Compliance.
  • Experience working in large, scaled businesses.
  • Deep understanding of Git workflows (eg, Gitflow, trunk-based development) and branching strategies.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD practices and tools, such as GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or Azure DevOps.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Proven track record of implementing GitHub at scale across teams.

Desirable:

  • Experience with GitHub Advanced Security (eg, code scanning, secret scanning).
  • A coding background and understanding of version control.
  • Knowledge of automation Scripting (eg, Python, Bash) for workflow enhancement.
  • Certification in GitHub Administration or DevOps practices.
