Job Description

Time Commitment: 2 days per month, with additional ambassadorial opportunities

Sickle Cell Society is the UK's patient charity for people living with sickle cell disorder. We believe that people living with the condition have the right to quality care. Sickle cell disorder affects around 17,500 people and is the UK's fastest growing genetic condition.

We support and represent people, patients and families affected by sickle cell disorder to improve their overall quality of life. Our aim is to support those living with sickle cell, empowering them to achieve their full potential.

As our next Chair, you will have a unique opportunity to build on our 40-year legacy to improve the lives of individuals living with sickle cell disorder. Through advocacy, support, and awareness-raising, we've made significant progress in amplifying the voices of the sickle cell community and driving change in healthcare policy and practice. Working closely with the Board of Trustees, Chief Executive, and staff, you will help shape our future strategy and ensure we continue to deliver meaningful impact for those we serve.

For the Chair we are seeking a strategic thinker who brings:

  • Clear passion and commitment to the Sickle Cell Society, its strategic objectives and cause
  • Experience of operating at a senior strategic leadership level
  • Experience of charity governance and working with or as part of a Board of Trustees
  • The ability to act as an ambassador for the sickle cell cause and the charity
