UX/UI Designer

About Us:
The Design and Content team in the Digital Services Unit (DSU) is seeking a highly skilled and innovative UX/UI Designer to join our digital services team in the public sector. This role focuses on designing human-centred digital solutions that enhance the experience of citizens and stakeholders interacting with services. The successful candidate will play a key role in transforming how public sector services are delivered online, ensuring accessibility, usability, and overall user satisfaction, in alignment with strategic priorities.

Job Overview:
As a UX/UI Designer, you will be at the forefront of transforming digital services to be more user-driven, accessible, and efficient. You will be responsible for designing and enhancing services that meet user needs and align with organisational goals. Collaborating with cross-functional teams, you will create engaging, accessible, and meaningful experiences across various platforms.

You will work closely with internal UX/UI designers, developers, external content designers, and other stakeholders. Your ability to extract crucial insights from complex requirements will enable you to create clear, simple, easy-to-use, and accessible designs. An iterative approach to design, leveraging analytics and user feedback, will be key to ensuring relevance and effectiveness.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the end-to-end design process for digital platforms, including research, wireframing, prototyping, and high-fidelity UI design.

  • Collaborate with developers, project managers, and stakeholders to create user-driven designs aligned with organisational objectives.

  • Conduct user research and usability testing to understand needs, pain points, and journeys. Translate findings into actionable insights and iterate designs accordingly.

  • Ensure all designs meet accessibility standards (WCAG).

  • Create and maintain a design system for consistency across platforms.

  • Present and communicate design solutions to stakeholders, clearly articulating design rationale.

  • Produce clear and concise visual representations of concepts using tools such as Figma.

  • Stay up to date with industry best practices, emerging technologies, and design trends to continually enhance user experience.

  • Support digital transformation efforts in the public sector by implementing innovative design strategies.

  • Provide training in design and prototyping tools as needed.

Key Qualifications and Skills:
  • Level 6 NFQ in UX/UI Design, Interaction Design, Graphic Design, or a related field (Bachelor's Degree NFQ Level 7/8 preferred).

  • 4+ years of professional experience in UX/UI design, ideally with experience in public sector and large-scale web applications.

  • Strong portfolio showcasing expertise in designing intuitive user experiences and visually compelling interfaces.

  • Proficiency in design tools such as Figma, Adobe XD, and prototyping tools.

  • Experience with user research methodologies, usability testing, and data-driven design.

  • Strong understanding of human-centred design principles and methodologies.

  • In-depth knowledge of web accessibility standards (WCAG) and responsive design principles.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders from diverse backgrounds.

  • Experience working in an agile environment.

  • Knowledge of Front End technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) is a plus.
