About us

The Royal College of Surgeons of England is one of the best known professional membership organisations in the world, with a name and reputation that speak for excellence in the UK and across the globe. We provide education, assessment and development to nearly 30,000 surgeons, dental surgeons and members of the wider surgical and dental teams at all stages of their career; we set professional standards, facilitate research and champion world-class surgical outcomes for patients.

The Royal College of Surgeons (RCS) is looking for two Trainee Services Coordinators to work within the Joint Committee on Surgical Training (JCST).

Renowned for our educational excellence, we have been committed to enabling surgeons to achieve and maintain the highest standards of surgical practice and patient care since 1800. The JCST is an intercollegiate body, working on behalf of the four Surgical Royal Colleges of the UK and Ireland. Our mission is to develop, promote and ensure the highest standards of surgical training for the benefit of patients and we are the parent body for the Intercollegiate Surgical Curriculum Programme (ISCP). Our four main responsibilities are specialty training, non-CCT specialist registration, curriculum development and quality improvement.

Duties and Responsibilities

Trainee Services Coordinators play a key role in supporting all aspects of the Trainee Services team's work, helping to provide a high level of customer service to trainees, trainers and others seeking advice from the JCST. They also support the Committee and Trainee Services Managers in dealing with trainee casework and committee support, and are responsible for providing an advice and guidance-based support service for users of the ISCP website.

To do this Coordinators will develop an understanding of the rules and guidance governing surgical training and a sound grasp of the JCST's own processes and those of the regulatory and training bodies in the UK and Ireland. They also need to use the tools of the ISCP online training management system on a day-to-day basis.
