Tooling Engineer

Location: Corsham/London (Hybrid - 50% onsite, 50% remote)
Duration: 6 months contract
Daily rate: £550 inside IR35

Are you passionate about designing and implementing robust tooling architectures to support software delivery teams? Join the D2S Tools Team at S* and contribute to delivering access and support for key tools within MOD's dynamic environment.

About the Role

As a Tooling Engineer, you will play a critical role in enabling efficient project management by ensuring delivery teams have the tools they need. This position is integral to defining, implementing, and maintaining a secure and scalable tooling infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform technical discovery and contribute to the planned tooling architecture.
  • Develop and define processes for deploying and maintaining tooling through Infrastructure as Code (IaC), using tools like Terraform.
  • Validate and implement security controls, including authentication policies and ensuring adherence to the "need to know" principle.
  • Establish principles for tooling assurance, security requirements, software hosting, containerization, and through-life management approaches.
  • Configure and validate tooling strategies against user requirements for Beta deployment.
  • Manage Kubernetes applications using Helm and deploy within the GitOps framework.
  • Collaborate in an Agile Scrum team, working in 2-week sprints to prioritize deliverables and align with sprint goals.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Expertise in infrastructure deployment using Terraform.
  • Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, containerization, and Helm for application management.
  • Strong understanding of tooling architecture and security validation processes.
  • Proficiency in Agile methodologies and Scrum practices.
  • Ability to balance remote and onsite work, with a focus on collaboration and stakeholder engagement.
