Teacher of Mathematics
Posted 6 days ago by Francis Holland School, Regent's Park
An inspirational and well-qualified mathematician is required for a part-time post starting in September 2025. Strong academic credentials are needed; and a good honours degree in mathematics or a subject with a high mathematics content is essential. This post would suit a new teacher or someone with classroom experience. A formal teaching qualification is desirable but not essential. Support to achieve Qualified Teacher Status can be provided and we will accept applications from candidates with outstanding qualifications who do not have previous teaching experience. There are currently seven teachers in the Mathematics Department.
The successful candidate will have the ability to teach mathematics throughout the school, from Year 7 to Year 13. The ability to teach Further Mathematics would be an advantage but is not essential. The candidate should have a keen and informed interest in mathematics pedagogy, a willingness to explore different teaching styles and an up-to-date knowledge of current curriculum changes to both the AQA GCSE and Edexcel A Level.
The Department is responsible for several mathematics-related co-curricular activities. Co-curricular enrichment by the Department includes the UK Mathematics Team Challenges and National Cipher Challenge. Additionally, the best mathematicians in the school annually attend a Mathematics Varsity Competition and sixth formers participate in the enrichment offered by the Maths Inspiration Programme. All FHS staff are encouraged to be involved with at least one co-curricular club, beyond curriculum time. Currently the Department runs a Junior Maths Club, Senior Maths Club and Chess Club at lunchtime.
The successful candidate will:
- be an inspirational and skilful teacher of Mathematics and possibly Further Mathematics from Year 7 to A Level.
- be fully informed of current educational initiatives especially relating to Mathematics.
- have experience of developing high quality co-curricular activities related to Mathematics and of promoting Mathematics within a wider school context.
- have excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills.
- have excellent IT skills and experience of using IT in Mathematics lessons.
- be willing to lead trips and conferences as required.
