System Applications Engineer

System-Applications Engineer - Edinburgh - Perm - Hybrid

My Client is seeking a skilled System-Applications Engineer with deep expertise in grid tied inverter systems - including PV and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) to support customer integration, prototype development, and technical advancements.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate closely with customers to understand application needs and deliver effective technical solutions.
• Partner with internal R&D teams to develop and refine reference designs and system architectures.
• Model and simulate energy systems using Python, MATLAB/Simulink, or similar tools.
• Design and implement lab-based test environments using evaluation boards and measurement equipment.
• Perform system prototyping, realistic testing, and data collection to replicate field scenarios.

Required Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's or higher degree in Engineering (Electrical, Electronics, or related discipline).
• Minimum 10 years of experience in the PV or Grid-Tied Inverter industry in roles such as product design, applications engineering, or systems development.
• Strong experience in Matlab/Simulink and Python for modelling and simulation.
• Proficiency in Scripting and automation with tools like LabVIEW or Python.
• Solid understanding of Microcontroller programming (C) and FPGA/Verilog development.
• Hands-on experience with power electronics systems and PCB design using tools like Cadence Allegro.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Fluent in English; capable of working effectively within international, cross-functional teams.
• Strong team player with the ability to thrive in a matrixed global organization.
• Strategic awareness of how individual contributions support wider business goals and market competitiveness.
• Proactive in continuous learning and professional development.

Additional Information

• Location - Edinburgh
• Working pattern - Hybrid 2-3 days on site but can be flexible for the right candidate.
• Permanent position
