Contract type: Fixed Term Contract (End date: 13/12/2024)

The Wellcome Trust is a global charitable foundation. We improve health for everyone by funding science, leading policy and advocacy campaigns, and building partnerships.

We plan to spend £16bn over the next ten years, funding new discoveries in life, health, and wellbeing, and taking on three global health challenges: mental health, infectious disease and climate and health.

These challenges need the bold science we support, but they won't be solved by science alone.

We are looking for a Strategic Partnerships, Adviser to join our team.

Where in Wellcome will I be working?

You will be working as part of Government Relations and Strategic Partnerships (GRSP), reporting to the Head of Strategic Partnerships.

This is an exciting time to be joining Strategic Partnerships as we grow our collaborations across sectors to have an impact on some of the biggest science and health challenges facing the world. You will get the opportunity to test out your partnership building acumen, working closely across Wellcome teams - especially our solutions and Discovery Programmes, Policy & Partnerships, Equity and Corporate Affairs teams. You'll broker impactful collaborations with key partner organisations, particularly within the UN ecosystem, aligned with our science and influencing goals, and you'll bring insights from the external environment and work with senior leaders in deepening our relationships with key partners. You will build strategic relationships at a senior level to help ensure that the research we fund leads to impact for communities most affected by health challenges. We are looking for someone with a collaborative mindset, a passion for creating and nurturing high-impact partnerships, an interest in global health and international affairs, experience of working in or with multilateral institutions and a drive to achieve change through collaboration with others.

What will I be doing?

As a Strategic Partnerships, Adviser, you will:

  • Work in significant, possibly complex strategic partnerships projects from inception to delivery, identifying and building the trust of key stakeholders in order to maximise support for our partnership work. Overcome risks to deliver projects to deadline and on budget. Specific work to do this may include:

    • Building a plan with objectives, timetable, milestones, resources required and risks for each strategic partnership project

    • Delivering projects, managing complex internal and external relations and managing a delegated budget for these purposes

    • Maintaining relationships with a network of senior external stakeholders, to enable the delivery of priority projects as well as 'business as usual'

    • Working closely with colleagues from GRSP and across Wellcome to deliver partnership strategies that deliver better outcomes

    • Establishing personal credibility and expertise on partnership development, and becoming an acknowledged and authoritative voice on the subject Using a matrix management approach to lead, coordinate and support efforts from across multiple internal teams

    • Reviewing project progress and forward plans to ensure that risks are being managed and mitigated where possible and that the scope and objectives for the project remain appropriate, working with senior managers in the team to agree changes to project scope as appropriate, as well as measuring and reporting on partnership status, direction and achievements

  • Contribute to a diverse and inclusive culture across the organisation, collaborating across departments.

Is this job for me?

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Experience of Strategic Partnerships work internationally, experience of working in healthcare, research, or international development sectors and experience of working across a wide range of stakeholders

  • Experience of working with UN and/or multilateral agencies, ideally in a partnerships capacity.

  • Experience of planning projects and managing them through to delivery and managing others to do the same.

  • Experience of implementing relationship management approaches across matrix organisations

  • Well-developed and demonstrable strategic planning skills - identifying the work and tools required to deliver objectives and mobilising resources to achieve this. With great stakeholder management and influencing skills - identifying and building the trust of priority stakeholders, internally and externally.

  • Well-developed presentation and facilitation skills - including ability to deliver presentations to large and/ or senior-level audiences.
