Electronic microscopes are the most sophisticated laboratory instruments that are used today. These tools and our software applications are used by scientists and engineers in life science, material sciences and semiconductor industry, indirectly affecting our life in many aspects.

Location / division team

The Design & Integration team is a pillar of the Material Science Research and Development organization. They are part of the Engineering team responsible for developing SDB and TEM microscopes. The team works in multi-disciplinary teams across multiple sites in Europe. This job is located in the Eindhoven offices.

Position

In the role of Staff Engineer, you will work on electron optical design and verification of high-end Material Science TEM microscopes. You are going to work closely together with a multidisciplinary team of colleagues from inside as well as outside R&D. The design choices made by yourself and the project team will have direct business impact. Your challenge will be to find solutions applying innovative physics & engineering knowledge with a strong emphasis on electron optics related to transmission electron microscopes.

Key aspects of the role

  • Defining new electron optics solutions, prototyping and implementation for an electron microscope product
  • Ensure technical feasibility of proposed solutions, steer the decision tackling technical issues together with the team
  • Validation of module and system specifications, including DoE, data analysis, solving issues and reporting ensuring customer success stories
  • Be the main electron optics technical contact for individuals in various engineering fields and suppliers
  • Working together with the Operations Engineering, and Global Technical Services to support the introduction of the newly developed modules into production
  • Absorb and drive forward new optics modules and solutions

Qualifications:

We encourage candidates with the following qualifications to apply.

  • Master or PhD Degree in a technical field, preferably Physics, or Applied Physics. A strong affinity for Electron Optics (Charge Particle Optics) is a plus
  • Shown experience (3+ years) in a similar role in the high-tech industry, preferably with experience in electron optics design and electron microscope operating modes
  • Ability to bridge system architecture, module architecture with detailed design choices and willingness to operate on both sides of the V-model
  • Hands-on mentality, with a drive for product development, value oriented with a realistic vision
  • Taking initiative, self-steering and ability to influence, self-confident, and perseverant
  • Software skills for algorithm prototyping (e.g. Python, Git, Labview, ) are advantageous
  • Eagerness to learn innovative technologies and flexible when circumstances change, some travel may be required (less than 20%)
