The Friends of Moorfields is a registered charity supporting the patients and staff at Moorfields Eye Hospital, a world centre of excellence for the specialist treatment of eye diseases.

The Friends provide a range of services to support the work of the hospital by managing the volunteer service, hospital shop and patient information hub.

The Position

The Shop Manager is an essential role, responsible for day-to-day management of the Friends shop at Moorfields City Road, including customer service, stock control and cash management.

The post-holder will be an all-rounder; someone who is comfortable working on their own initiative, is well organised, numerate, and who enjoys the challenges of supporting a small and friendly team. They will be supported to grow and develop in this role, through an active approach to training and development, and through a positive and empowering working environment.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

• Managing Shop Sales and Customer Service.
  • Taking primary responsibility for all sales, including working the till when required and ensuring all shop volunteers are fully trained to use the till.
  • Maintain an inviting, clean and tidy look for the Shop
  • Regularly liaise with the Chief Executive to analyse sales figures to maximise profits.
  • Maintain the appropriate level of prices and ensure that any price fluctuations from suppliers are updated.
  • Organise special promotions and displays.
  • Respond to customer complaints and comments.
  • Maintain the daily book of records to record sales figures and returns, for data analysis and forward planning.
  • Ensure timely and up-to-date newspaper supplies, with accurate returns and credits monitoring; monitor weekly book of figures for additional sales control.
  • Organise and maximise the trolley rounds around the Hospital to provide efficient service and improved patient experience
  • Manage the Shop Supervisor and a team of volunteers working in the shop and running the trolley service.
  • Liaise with the Volunteer Service team to recruit appropriate volunteers to assist in the shop and trolley service

• Manage stock, including annual stocktake.
  • Manage stock levels and making decisions about stock rotation and control.
  • Maintain an up-to-date record of the stock ordered, cost and tax values of every delivery.
  • Physically handle stock delivery and product placement - including ensuring the fridge is restocked every evening.
  • Ensure a variety of stock, including products to support visually impaired patients.
  • Check supplier invoices, and pass to office for payment.
  • Maintain an up-to-date catalogue system of suppliers, liaise with suppliers and order in a timely manner.
  • Monitor and source suppliers for potential better prices on the market and renegotiate prices and arrangements when appropriate.
  • Co-ordinate the annual stocktake.
• Manage cash flow and budgetary control.
  • Complete the daily cash-up procedure.
  • Maintain accurate daily records of the trolley rounds takings and daily takings.
  • Partner the Chief Executive in producing a realistic and achievable annual income and expenditure budget for the shop.
• Develop and promote the shop, both as a business and as central point for information about the Friends.
  • Investigate and propose new stock items and product lines.
  • Suggest and implement agreed ways of expanding and developing shop sales, including managing and promoting online shop.
  • Answer general enquiries from patients, volunteers and staff at Moorfields
  • Actively promote membership of Friends of Moorfields and The Peacock Lottery through the shop.
  • Ensure leaflets and other information is clearly displayed and kept updated.
