Service Designer - Scotland - OUTSIDE IR35

Since being founded in 2010 they've worked with brilliant clients from Cancer Research to Hackney Council, Tesco to the Scouts. Their multidisciplinary team works with organisations to design more effective services which help people thrive.

By helping to deliver on the Service Standard's commitment to user-centred design they're able to work with smaller organisations such as start-ups and charities. They're also continuing to dedicate time to key missions such as Thriving Planet, which aims to put sustainability at the heart of their practice. They have big plans and are seeking people who can join them, working with their partners and clients to design services that reflect their commitment to a fairer, more sustainable future for all.

On behalf of this organisation, AMS are looking for an Service Designer for a 3-month contract outside IR35 based in Glasgow. The role will occasionally require Scotland-wide travel; the client will expense this for you.

Purpose of the role:

An exciting outside IR35 contracting opportunity has arisen with our client Snook. They are seeking x2 Service Designers for a high profile public sector project to help shape innovative, user-centered digital services.

The ideal Service Designer will have a strong understanding of digital design standards, particularly those of the Scottish Government, as well as experience working on digital technology projects.

Responsibilities of the role:

1. Research:

   • Collaborate with user researchers to uncover key factors affecting the service and its usage.

   • Use research insights to inform service design decisions.

2. Strategy & Systems Thinking:

   • Apply systems thinking to map and analyze strategies, systems, and scenarios.

   • Develop well-grounded, strategic recommendations.

3. User-Centered Journeys & Experiences:

   • Create user-centered journeys that align with the client's strategic vision.

   • Ensure solutions are feasible to implement and provide value to users.

4. Facilitation:

   • Design and deliver engaging workshops for teams, clients, and stakeholders.

   • Present ideas effectively to clients and colleagues.

5. Visual Communication:

   • Create clear and compelling visuals to articulate ideas and strategies effectively.

6. Written Communication:

   • Produce clear, concise, and structured written deliverables.

   • Select appropriate formats and structures for various audiences.

7. Recommendation & Implementation:

   • Work with stakeholders to identify actionable changes and implementation plans.

   • Define timeframes, resource needs, and future project phases.

What we require from the candidate:

• Previous experience in user journey focussed Service Design roles.
• Proven experience in digital technology or transformation projects.
• Strong problem-solving, systems thinking, and strategic recommendation skills.
• A track record of creating user-focused solutions that align with organizational goals.
• Familiarity with Scottish Government Digital Design Standards (desirable).
