Job Description

Purpose of Position

As a Software Engineer you are part of a cross-functional service-oriented team, working on extending and maintaining our Affiliate Marketing platform.

You will be responsible for writing clean, secure and well-tested code. You follow best-practice guidelines and help to improve those guidelines, your code is open by default and easy for others to reuse. You are part of a team and with the team extend, maintain and operate assigned parts of our platform.

You have a good understanding of the user needs within your service and work with the product owner and other team members to translate these into technical solutions. You work through the entire lifecycle of a service or product, from understanding requirements, development to deployment, support and maintenance. You show an understanding for deadlines, find pragmatic solutions and are proactive in raising potential risks.

You will help the team in solving the challenges that arise as our business grows and develops; working together to ensure the service continues to meet the needs of our business and its customers.

You will be joining our Advertiser tribe which handles one of our most important and impactful solutions at Awin. Getting partners to discover each other! It is of the uttermost importance to get our clients embarked in a journey of building new relationships with possible partners that can better enable them to focus on the business, while their new connections help them drive sales and engagement.

As part of our team, you'll contribute to a dynamic environment focused on building partnerships that drive growth. While our current applications primarily use PHP and on-premises hosting, we're actively exploring Java and AWS for upcoming projects. Join us in shaping the future of affiliate marketing.

Key Tasks & Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate within a small, focused team that follows agile methodologies, working with a well-defined and refined product backlog. Active participation in sprints, stand-ups, and retrospectives is essential.
  • Enhance and innovate on existing applications while also contributing to the design and development of new solutions from the ground up, ensuring scalability and performance.
  • Contribute to the full development lifecycle by writing high-quality code, participating in code reviews, and continuously improving team processes and technologies through retrospectives and planning sessions.
  • Contribute to shaping the technical direction by actively participating in development practices, tools, and technology decisions, ensuring the team remains aligned with modern approaches.
  • Champion best practices in development, architecture, and process, and actively help evolve and optimise those standards across the team.
  • Work closely with Product Managers to translate user stories into technical features and actionable development tasks, ensuring alignment between business goals and engineering work.
  • Tackle complex business logic challenges and deliver solutions that address real-world business needs while maintaining high standards of reliability and maintainability.
  • Communicate effectively with both local and remote team members, contributing to both verbal and written discussions. You'll be expected to maintain clear and concise documentation, as well as be responsive via email and other communication tools.

Skills & Expertise:

Required:

  • At least 6 years of commercial Software Engineering experience, with a proven track record of delivering high-quality, scalable software solutions.
  • Proficiency in PHP, with extensive hands-on experience in building robust, secure, and scalable applications.
  • Passion for writing elegant code and a desire to constantly refactor and improve, with a good understanding of SOLID, design principles and OOP
  • Proficient in working with both relational and non-relational databases, with hands-on experience in SQL and NoSQL databases.
  • Strong understanding of distributed systems and microservice architecture, ensuring scalable and reliable services.
  • Good understanding of Cloud technologies (AWS, Azure, GCP) .
  • Eagerness to learn and develop skills in Java and AWS. Opportunities for growth and learning in this area will be provided

Nice to have:

  • Experience with Java or any exposure to Java-based systems and frameworks (Spring, Hibernate, etc.).
  • Knowledge of containerisation tools like Docker and orchestration platforms like Kubernetes.
  • Familiarity with front-end frameworks such as Angular.
  • understanding of messaging systems, with a preference for Kafka.
  • Familiar with cache solutions. Redis, Memcached, or else.
