Senior Cloud Infrastructure Engineer - Azure Specialist

The Senior Cloud Infrastructure Engineer will play a pivotal role in leading and managing our cloud infrastructure, with a strong emphasis on Azure environments, cloud migration, cost management, and security best practices. Working closely with the Infrastructure Operations Manager, this role is responsible for ensuring the scalability, reliability, and security of our cloud and network infrastructure while driving innovation and efficiency.

The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in Azure, strong network engineering experience (including SD-WAN and network migration), and advanced PowerShell Scripting capabilities. This position will also serve as the final escalation point for infrastructure-related incidents, working alongside MSPs and third parties to resolve complex issues efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

Azure & Cloud Infrastructure Management:

• Lead the design, deployment, and maintenance of Azure cloud environments, ensuring high availability, security, and cost efficiency.
• Drive cloud migration strategies, including workload assessment, migration planning, and execution.
• Manage Azure cost optimisation, ensuring efficient resource allocation and cost control.
• Oversee Azure networking components, including Virtual Networks, VPNs, ExpressRoute, Load Balancers, and Azure Firewall.
• Implement Azure security best practices, including Entra ID (Azure AD), conditional access policies, identity governance, and RBAC.

Network & Infrastructure Engineering:

• Manage and optimise WAN/LAN/SD-WAN environments, ensuring seamless connectivity and performance across multi-site deployments.
• Lead network migration projects, including Firewall management, routing, and switching configurations.
• Provide 3rd-line support for infrastructure incidents, diagnosing and resolving technical issues efficiently.
• Maintain and optimise Windows Server infrastructure, ensuring reliability and security compliance.
• Develop and implement disaster recovery (DR) strategies for business continuity.

Automation & PowerShell Scripting:

• Utilise PowerShell and other automation tools to streamline infrastructure management, configuration, and deployment.
• Automate Azure resource provisioning and policy enforcement to improve operational efficiency.
• Develop scripts for identity management, user provisioning, and access control automation.

Collaboration & Continuous Improvement:

• Act as the technical lead for cloud and infrastructure projects, working closely with stakeholders, MSPs, and third-party vendors.
• Provide mentorship and knowledge sharing within the IT team, supporting the development of junior engineers.
• Continuously evaluate and implement emerging Azure technologies to improve operational efficiency.
• Maintain accurate documentation of cloud configurations, network topologies, and infrastructure policies.

Skills & Qualifications

Essential:

• Extensive hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure, including IaaS, PaaS, Networking, and Security.
• Proven expertise in cloud migration, Azure cost management, and performance optimisation.
• Strong knowledge of Entra ID (Azure AD), conditional access, and identity security.
• Advanced PowerShell Scripting skills, with experience in automation and configuration management.
• In-depth understanding of network engineering, including SD-WAN, VPNs, Firewalls, and network security.
• Strong background in Windows Server administration, Active Directory, and Group Policy.
• Experience with incident management, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis in cloud and network environments.
• Ability to design and implement "secure by design" solutions for enterprise infrastructure.

Desirable:

• Microsoft Azure Certifications (eg, Azure Solutions Architect, Azure Administrator, Azure Security Engineer).
• Experience in SharePoint Administration and Identity & Access Management (IAM).
• Familiarity with ITIL processes and experience working within an ITIL-driven environment.
• Previous experience in the professional services or legal sector.
• Strong vendor management experience, ensuring effective relationships with cloud and network providers.
