Are you an experienced Social Worker looking to use your skills in a school setting to support children and young people? The School Social Work Team is a diverse team of 10 Social Workers across 20 educational establishments in Wandsworth. Working directly with children and young people in their school setting, as well as with teachers and other school staff; you will be confident in your ability to form relationships at all levels. Can you bring your own life experiences to support these children and young people while challenging the norm?

About The Role

In this unique role, you will be working independently with the average of 15 children and young people with a key focus on preventative work. Your role will be to identify children earlier on to avoid the need for statutory interventions on a school-based level.

Although you will not hold a full caseload, you will have the opportunity to build relationships with children, staff and the wider school community in two schools, and forge links with services in the wider community.

No two days will be the same, and you will undertake a variety of different activities according to the particular needs of each school. You will work alongside the schools and your team manager to agree the appropriate interventions, activities and support you can provide which might include statutory intervention as well as supporting those being stepped down.

You will need to demonstrate a flexible and creative approach to contribute to supporting as many children and young people as possible. You will be based across schools in the borough with one day a month working from home.

Essential Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • You are a qualified social worker with relevant systemic practice experience working with children and young people in care;
  • You can sensitively support children of different ages and lived experiences, and have the motivation to make a positive contribution to their lives;
  • You are able to plan and lead on initiatives focused on safeguarding children, with the confidence to implement these in a school setting.
  • You will ideally have an understanding of school settings and their educational context.

If you are passionate about making a positive impact on the lives of children and young people, possess the required qualifications and experience, and thrive in a challenging yet highly rewarding environment, we invite you to apply for this opportunity.
