SAP Production Engineer L3

A position has arisen for a Level 3 (L3) Database Administrator to join the Global Database Service team at one of the world's leading investment banks. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of an elite, high-performing team responsible for the operation and management of a vast and highly critical database infrastructure consisting of tens of thousands of mission-critical databases across multiple business units.

As an L3 DBA, you will be exposed to enterprise-scale database systems, helping to maintain and optimize the databases that drive the organization's success.

In addition to day-to-day database management, this role offers the opportunity to contribute directly to DevOps automation efforts within the database space as part of the Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) model.
The team operates a 24/7/365 follow-the-Sun support model, with members spread globally, ensuring high availability and support for the critical database systems.

Its 2 days a week in Glasgow Office

Key Responsibilities:
* Database Expertise & Consultancy: Provide expert-level support and consultation on SAP Sybase ASE or DB2 databases to internal application development teams.
* HVR Support: Provide specialized support for High Volume Replicator (HVR), a database replication technology from Fivetran. (Experience with HVR is advantageous, though training can be provided.)
* Incident & Outage Management: Lead and manage database outages and incidents from troubleshooting to resolution, including performing root cause analysis and implementing corrective measures.
* Ticket/Alert Escalations: Handle escalated tickets and alerts from Level 1 and Level 2 DBA teams, ensuring quick resolution of issues.
* Project Work: Involvement in key database projects such as:
o Database performance tuning and optimization
o Migration and version upgrades
o Operational acceptance testing for new features
* Scripting & Automation: Develop self-service tools, scripts, and automate processes using languages like Python and Perl to improve efficiency and reduce manual intervention.
* Operational Best Practices: Define and review operational best practices, and create and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for database management.
* Support Rotations: Participate in the weekday and weekend support rota, ensuring round-the-clock support coverage for critical systems.

Qualifications & Skills:
* Required:
o Proven expertise with SAP Sybase ASE or DB2 databases (L3 level).
o Strong experience with incident management and troubleshooting in high-pressure environments.
o Proficiency in Python and Perl for automation and Scripting.
o Strong understanding of database performance tuning, migrations, and upgrades.
o Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work with global teams across different time zones.
o Ability to work in a 24/7 support environment, with rotating shifts.

* Preferred:
o Experience with High Volume Replicator (HVR) or Fivetran replication technologies (training will be provided).
o Previous experience in a DevOps or SRE environment.
o Experience with database clustering, replication, and high availability solutions.
* Education & Certifications:
o Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (preferred).
o Relevant database certifications (eg, Oracle, Microsoft, Sybase) are a plus.
