The Sales Engineer will work closely with existing and new clients to provide technical sales support during the project tender periods. The role will include technical and commercial review of project specifications, production of accurate quotations and proposals and developing long-term relationships with new and existing clients.
The Sales Engineer will work closely with the sales, engineering, and operations teams to ensure that estimates align with the companys capabilities and budget and will be responsible for maintaining and developing strong, long-term client relationships to ensure our proposals meet their expectations and secure new business.
The successful candidate will be technically confident and proficient in one (or more) of the services we provide and have an aspiration to learn about the other systems and become a holistic Smart Building System Specialist.
The role reports to the Sales Director.
Responsibilities:
Estimating
- Read and analyse project specifications, technical drawings and client requirements to produce a compliant quotation.
- Ability to price a working solution including high-level system topologies where required
- Use of excel and Microsoft office suite to generate quotations
- Produce detailed, itemised quotations that including ideas for innovation to meet client and project KPI's.
- Ensure that all estimates are aligned with company pricing policies, profitability targets, and budget constraints.
- Identify any risks and opportunities related to project costs and work with colleagues and the customer to mitigate them
- Handle the entire sales cycle, from lead generation to closing sales and ensuring customer satisfaction post-purchase.
- Maintain a deep understanding of the products or services being sold, including their features, benefits, and competitive advantages.
- Contribute and consistently meet or exceed team sales quotas and performance targets set by management.
- Identify new prospects through cold calling, networking, or following up on leads provided by marketing or sales support teams.
- Negotiate pricing and terms with customers and close sales deals.
- Stay informed about market trends, regulations, competitors, and customer needs to recommend improvements or new sales strategies.
- Attending and leading client meetings to determine projects requirements (pre-bid, mid-bid and post-tender meetings)
- Communicate with clients and colleagues to gather necessary information and clarify project specifications and finalise proposals and ensure that our final quotation is compliant and meets customer expectations.
- Follow up with clients to ensure that proposals meet their expectations and answer any questions they may have.
- Adjust quotes and estimates based on feedback or changes in project scope.
- Enjoy presenting technical and commercial information to clients to demonstrate value and help to secure new business
- Support the sales team during the negotiation phase by answering technical or pricing-related questions.
- Team collaboration - Work effectively with sales, marketing, and customer service teams to achieve company goals.
- Ensure a clean hand-over to operations team including review of key contract documents such as drawing register, clarifications and pricing schedules
- Maintain the sales database and ensure records are kept up-to-date and accurate
- Education - Bachelors degree or HND Level or equivalent in engineering (mechanical, electrical or ICT)
- Experience - Previous experience in sales, sales estimating, cost estimating or quantity surveying
- Technical Knowledge - ICT network design qualifications such as CISCO with strong product knowledge and ability to create BOM using CISCO Commerce Website. Knowledge of BMS, Security and/or other Smart Building Technology
- Analytical Skills - Strong ability to interpret technical information with a commercial eye, make accurate calculations and prepare detailed documentation.
- Communication Skills - Excellent verbal and written English with the ability to communicate technical information in a clearly to both technical and non-technical clients and colleagues.
- Attention to detail - Strong attention to detail to ensure estimates are accurate and complete
