We are AMS. We are a global total workforce solutions firm; we enable organisations to thrive in an age of constant change by building, re-shaping, and optimising workforces. Our Contingent Workforce Solutions (CWS) is one of our service offerings; we act as an extension of our clients' recruitment team and provide professional interim and temporary resources.

Our client, a major UK retail bank, provides every day banking services to over 17 million retail customers. The banks expertise and services span across Business Services, Corporate banking, Wealth Management, Group Functions, Retail and Investment Banking.

On behalf of this organisation, AMS are looking for a Risk and Controls Manager for a 12-month contract on a remote-first basis. When office attendance is required this can be in either London, Edinburgh, Manchester OR Bristol per your preference.

Purpose of the Role:

This is a 12-month, remote-first contract for a Risk and Controls Manager with a well known money-management application attached to a major UK retail bank.

A regulator-mandated change is requiring our client to undergo a large-scale banking license transition. This transformation will necessitate a review and enhancement of the control environment, ensuring alignment with the new operating model. To support this mandatory change, a dedicated project team has been established, and our client are seeking an experienced Risk/Controls Manager to play a crucial role in managing the new environment.

Responsibilities of the role:

You will be providing oversight, risk assessment, and control enhancements to support the banking licensing transition. You will act as a conduit between the programme and the established BAU risk and controls function, ensuring operational resilience and compliance throughout the change.

You will also:

  • Support the transformation programme from a risk and control perspective, ensuring all changes align with regulatory expectations and operational risk frameworks.
  • Conduct change risk assessments within the operational risk space to identify, evaluate, and mitigate emerging risks.
  • Assess and re-wire control frameworks to align with the new banking license requirements.
  • Act as the key risk liaison between the programme and BAU risk teams, ensuring seamless integration of new processes into ongoing operations.
  • Provide guidance on risk management best practices, governance, and control environment improvements.
  • Support regulatory engagements and audits related to the banking licensing transition.
  • Work closely with stakeholders across risk, compliance, operations, and technology to embed effective controls.
  • Leverage collaboration tools such as Slack and Google Meet to drive communication across remote teams.

What we require from you:

  • A strong background in risk and controls management within the financial services sector.
  • Experience working on banking license transitions or similar large-scale regulatory change programmes.
  • Expertise in change risk assessments and operational risk frameworks.
  • Proven ability to work in a transformation capacity, balancing programme requirements with ongoing business operations.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills with experience liaising between programme teams and BAU functions.
  • Ability to assess, design, and implement enhanced control environments in response to regulatory shifts.
  • Understanding of banking governance, risk, and compliance requirements.

Next steps:

This client will only accept workers operating via an Umbrella or PAYE engagement model.
