Job Description

The Directorate is also responsible for regeneration (where the programme is not housing led), enterprise, growth, capital projects and design work.

About the team The GLA is recruiting for a Research and Monitoring Officer within the Mayor's expert Viability Team. This is a unique opportunity to:

join a higher performing, dedicated and supportive team in GLA Planning and Regeneration working at the interplay between strategic policy and developments across London.

develop expertise and experience of research and monitoring work and contributing to advice given to planning colleagues on affordable housing, developer contributions and viability.

work at the frontline of affordable housing delivery within the planning and development system to contribute to the Mayor's strategic aims and to help address London's housing crisis.

About the role You will work alongside other members of the Planning and Viability Teams to advise the Mayor of London on strategic planning applications and related policy and guidance.

You will work with teams across the GLA and the wider sector to monitor the implementation of the Mayor's policies and help to promote best practice across the public, private and community sectors.

You will develop your skills, knowledge and experience to assist in the assessment of viability and support the delivery of affordable housing and sustainable development across London.

This role is based at London Fire Brigade's Head Office (Union Street SE1 0LL)

Skills, knowledge and experience To be considered for the role you must meet the following essential criteria:

Knowledge and understanding of national, regional and London strategic planning and development issues, legal processes, policy trends, and broad knowledge and understanding of local planning issues and processes and a knowledge of urban design and place making.

Evidence of an ability to investigate, analyse and present policy and urban design solutions for planning issues.

Excellent communication skills and evidence of ability to prepare clear and concise reports, presentations and briefings, including an ability to illustrate ideas through mapping and graphics presentations.

Substantial progress towards either a degree in planning or equivalent or post graduate qualification with eligibility for Royal Town Planning Institute membership or Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors. Knowledge and broad understanding of national, regional and London strategic planning, policy and development issues and trends. (Grade 7 only)

Broad understanding and experience in either: strategy or policy production, local plan-making and supplementary planning documents, projects and development frameworks or development management and strategic planning application assessments or affordable housing and development viability research and monitoring. (Grade 7 only)

General understanding and experience of infrastructure planning, delivery and funding mechanisms, including S.106 agreements and community infrastructure levy (CIL). (Grade 7 only)
