In Manchester Diocese, we recognise that we still have much to learn, in a world where many still struggle for racial justice. We are committed to advancing this cause, grounded in our Christian calling to promote equality, unity, and inclusion and tackle racism.

We have recently been awarded funding from the Church of England's Racial Justice Unit to enable us to:

  • roll out our Shades diversity and anti-racism programme for young people in our schools and parishes across the diocese.
  • provide direct support for our Global Majority Heritage congregations.
  • focus on development and training for our clergy and lay leaders, enabling our parishes to welcome people from all backgrounds.
  • award grants for innovative local parish projects.

As well as having oversight of this exciting programme, the Racial Justice Programme Lead will engage with lay and ordained leaders across Manchester Diocese to ensure that we prioritise our work on racial justice and anti-racism. They will work with others to enable us to become a diocese which fully welcomes, support and embraces people from global majority heritage backgrounds and ensure that creative and inspiring approaches to achieving racial justice from across the diocese and the wider Church are promoted and built on.
