Job Description

We're recruiting a Project Manager on a fixed-term basis to lead our work on the High Speed 2 railway (Phase 1) in Buckinghamshire. With experience in stakeholder management or infrastructure projects, you'll manage risks and opportunities arising from HS2 construction near National Trust places. Acting as the Trust's representative, you'll engage with stakeholders to minimise construction impacts.

What it's like to work here

You'll join our Planning and Major Infrastructure Team, reporting to a Senior National Consultant. Working closely with regional and property teams in Aylesbury Vale and the Chilterns, you'll help achieve project goals.

Your contractual location will be our head office in Swindon and there will be an expectation for you to attend the office. However, there is flexibility on where you're based at other times. You'll be required to work at a National Trust location for 40-60% of your working week. This will be discussed in more detail at interview.

What you'll be doing

You'll work with property staff and experts to hold HS2 and contractors accountable, ensuring design and construction commitments are met while managing impacts on National Trust sites and identifying opportunities for enhancements.

You'll lead stakeholder communications for HS2 Phase 1, managing relationships with HS2 Ltd, contractors, and other key stakeholders to maximise the Trust's influence and opportunities. Representing the Trust's interests in negotiations and design development, you'll deliver the project following the NT Project Management Framework, sharing lessons for the organisation's benefit.

You can view the full role profile for this role in the document attached. You don't need to have all the knowledge, skills and experience listed in the role profile; this is just to provide a full picture of what's possible in this role.

Who we're looking for:

  • proven experience in delivering complex projects end-to-end, including resource planning, procurement, and matrix management across multiple projects
  • professionally qualified in project (AMP PMQ/Prince) or programme management (MSP)

  • a flexible thinker and problem-solver, skilled in negotiation and building productive networks, with the ability to influence senior leaders
  • a communicator, experienced in managing complex situations with diverse stakeholders
  • a leader for inclusion, committed to building an inclusive culture
  • able to demonstrate experience of successfully navigating the challenges and opportunities of the construction of major infrastructure projects

It's important that our people reflect and represent the diversity of the communities and audiences we serve.
