Cost Accountant job based in Romford, Essex

Our client is based in Romford, Essex. Due to an upturn in business, a need has arisen for a Project Cost Accountant. You will be reporting to the Finance Director and working alongside the Management Accountant.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Maintaining & Producing the Orderbook monthly
  • Using the Orderbook to forecast revenue by month and year
  • Review of the WIP & Accrued Revenue schedule to identify exceptions
  • Liaise with Operations to investigate exceptions
  • Recommend financial adjustments where projects fall outside of budget
  • Assist with ledger journals, accruals, prepayments & production of MI
  • Further duties will be given as the review procedure develops.
  • Orderbook
  • Update the orderbook files with the 'Year-to-Date' values for revenue and
    cost of sales
  • Add new projects that have been entered onto Project Accounting since previous and remove any completed projects.

  • Revenue Forecast
  • Using the updated Orderbook provide a revenue forecast for both capital works projects
  • Capital Works will be the remaining value of budgeted revenue
  • Service and Maintenace will be the balance of the contract remaining, monthly
  • (Particular care to be taken with service contracts to ensure revenue is stable)
  • Exception Reporting
  • Using the updated Orderbook look for projects that appear to have gross margins below expectations or revenue that should have been raised
  • Capital Works, revenue previously forecast in the period
  • Service, revenue missing for a period(s)
  • Investigation
  • Contact the relevant Project Managers to discuss the identified exceptions
  • Distinguish between timing differences and errors
  • This role is based in the office 5 days a week.
    Salary is £40,000-£45,000 dependent on experience
    Working hours 40 hours, 8am to 5pm, one hour lunch
