Your starting salary will be£27,300 pa. increasing to £28,350 after 12 months and increasingagain to £32,288 when you reach 3 years' service. We are fullycommitted to progressing you through your PCO Portfolio or PCOApprenticeship which would increase your salary to £32,288 as soonas either of these is successfully completed which canrealistically be achieved within 12 to 18 months of joining us. As a Prison Officer, you'll beat the forefront of ensuring the health, safety, and wellbeing ofeveryone around you. It's a job where your contribution reallycounts as you work to give prisoners structure within their lives,encourage positive choices, and support them on their journey torehabilitation. Day to day you'll be involvedin:
    Supervising prisoners in allaspects of prison wingactivity. Overseeing work and educationprogrammes, encouraging prisoners toparticipate. Operational matters such asprisoner headcounts, prison cell searching, security, andadministrativeprocesses. Managing prisoners who are atrisk ofself-harm.

We operate 24/7, all year roundmeaning you'll cover shifts on days, evenings, weekends, nights,and bank holidays. We value the importance of work-life balance, weoperate on a rota basis that allows you the flexibility to enjoymeaningful time off to do the things you enjoy &love.

Preparing for yourrecruitmentjourney:

You'll be invited you tocomplete an online assessment. If you pass theinitial online assessment, we will invite you to attend a virtualcompetency-based interview. Once you passed this assessment, wewill invite you to the Prison for a visit and to complete a basicMaths and Englishassessment.

Once you've passed assessment,we'll invite you to attend a 10-week Initial Training Course (ITC)at the Prison, which requires 100% attendance. This consists of 8weeks classroom-based training and 2 weeks shadowing to give you areal taste of life on the job. The ITC provides high qualitytraining, you'll complete a Diploma in Custodial Care, First Aidand undergo Control and Restraint training.

What else do I need toknow
    This role is exempt from theRehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, and all offers of employmentare subject to security clearance checks, and satisfactoryemployment references. You'll be required to provide 5 yearsof employment and education history as part of thesechecks.
  • This role is not eligible for Skilled Workervisa sponsorship under current UK Home Office rules, as it does notmeet the required salary or skill level criteria. Whilst weencourage applications to other roles, candidates who already havea valid right to work in the UK through other immigration routes orpermissions must meet the below minimum eligibilitycriteria:
  • Have at least two years remaining on yourcurrent visa to ensure sufficient time in therole.
  • Have lived in the UK for at least one year,as the vetting process requires a counter-signatory from arecognised professional who has known you for thatduration.
