Job Description
Do you hold a PhD or have equivalent research experiece in converter-based energy resources? Are you familiar with frequency domain analysis and eigenvalue studies? And do you have the courage and persistence which it takes to develop models and validate them against tests in a real 1000kVA scale converter-based Hybrid Power Plant (HPP) facility combining wind turbines, PV systems and storage systems? Then here is a chance to continue your research in a direction which is intended to be applied in industry and used in international standardization. You will work in a team of other young reserachers and experiencesd forefront researchers in DTU's Department of Wind and Energy Systems. Responsibilities and qualifications Grid operators require validated models from developers who apply for grid connection of converter-based power plants such as wind power plants, solar plants or HPPs. Until recently, grid operators only requested RMS type models, but today many grid operators are requesting additional EMT type models as well as frequency domain models, often referred to as harmonic models. For this position, the focus will be on development and validation of frequency domain models, but experience with EMT modelling is also very valuable. The model validation will be based on experiments in the Risø-HPP facility, which will connect the 1000kVA HPP to a controllable grid emulator with exceptional test capabilities. Thus, the grid emulator will be a high bandwidth converter system which is able to perturbate the fundamental freqeucy voltage with user-defined disturbances up to 20 kHz. You will use this grid emulator to perform experiments on single wind turbine, single PV system, single storage unit, and finally on the complete HPP. Based on those experiments, you will not only model and validate the individual units but also develop and validate aggregation methods to model the entire HPP. And finally, the results of your work will be uses in IEC 61400-27-3 standardization of model validation. Your primary tasks will be to Develop frequency domain models for each unit in Risø-HPP Develop test plans and perform tests for individual units as well as the complete HPP. This should be done in close collaboration with Risø-HPP facility manager. Specify method to use the models of the individual units in aggregation of a model for the HPP. Report your work in meetings with funding industry partner TotalEnergies. Participate and share experience in IEC 61400-27-3 standardization meetings. Publish your research as peer reviewed journal articles and conferences contributions. Contribute to course teaching. Co-supervise BSc and MSc final projects As a formal qualification, you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent). The PhD is expected to be around converter-based energy resources.
