Job Description

Applicants must hold a Level 2 Childcare or Playwork Qualification or above.

Start date will be as soon as possible pending necessary DBS checks.

The role involves working Flintshire School Term time in our Breakfast and Afterschool Club (38 weeks per year) along with 6 weeks of holiday club cover (please see description below for further information).

Overview:

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Play Worker to join our team. As a Play Worker, you will be responsible for creating a safe and engaging environment for children to play and learn. This is an exciting opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of children and contribute to their development. Kinnerton Little Acorns provides a vital wraparound care for the parents/carers of children who attend Ysgol Derwen and we have our holiday club which operates 6 weeks of the year.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and interact with children during play activities
  • Plan and organise age-appropriate games, crafts, and recreational activities
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all children in your care
  • Promote positive behaviour and enforce our golden rules
  • Assist with snack times and provide assistance with personal care, if needed
  • Collaborate with other staff members to create a stimulating play environment
  • Maintain cleanliness and organisation of play areas
  • Communicate effectively with parents or guardians regarding their child

Skills:

  • Passion for working with children and promoting their development
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to engage children in fun and educational activities
  • Patience, empathy, and the ability to handle challenging behaviours
  • Strong organisational skills to manage multiple tasks effectively
  • Ability to work well in a team environment

If you hold a Childcare Qualification (such as CCPLD) we will require that you enrol into the local college to complete the Transition to Play Worker as soon as practicable.

Hours advertised below are fixed during term-time (Welsh term time) with 6 weeks of holiday club cover requested too.

  • Breakfast Club 07:30 - 09:00 - Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday
  • Afterschool club 15:00 - 18:00 - Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday
  • Holiday club shifts are on a different shift pattern of normally 8am - 1pm or 12:30pm - 5:30pm (this can be discussed with the Childcare Lead).
  • There will also be opportunities to cover other shifts as and when required due to staff absence or training and these will be in our Playgroup and Wraparound shifts. This is optional but always greatly appreciated when you can help cover.

Holiday club is running on the following weeks during the remainder of the school year:

  • w/c Monday 24th February - Friday 28th February 2025
  • w/c Monday 14th April - Thursday 17th April 2025
  • w/c Tuesday 27th May - Friday 30th May 2025
  • w/c Monday 11th August - Friday 15th August 2025
  • w/c Monday 18th August - Friday 22nd August 2025
  • We will run a holiday club in October 2025 dates will be confirmed shortly
