Job Description

Purpose of job The Macmillan Cancer Support and Community Connections Services Manager oversees and coordinates our diverse team of cancer support and community engagement professionals. This role is crucial in ensuring the seamless integration of our various support services and community engagement projects. To support the effective delivery of the Lewisham Macmillan Cancer Support and Community Connections Lewisham (CCL) project, which aims to:

  • Raise levels of cancer awareness in underrepresented communities in Lewisham
  • Tackle the stigma and taboos that sometimes surrounds cancer and a cancer diagnosis.
  • Encourage greater uptake of cancer screening services.
  • Support the wellbeing of individuals and all communities included those affected by cancer through the provision of public and community-led information and engagement.
  • Developing relationships with the NHS Social Prescribers working in GP surgeries to ensure that a consistent service is provided across providers and that there is no overlap.

Key Tasks

  1. Manage the delivery of our Social Prescribing services and the Macmillan Cancer Support funded services, directly line managing (five) staff.
  2. Encourage partnership working between the various Social Prescribing projects in Lewisham and have a strategic overview of Social Prescribing as a whole in the borough.
  3. Support the effective engagement of stakeholders.
  4. Strengthen and maintain key relationships and partnerships in Lewisham.
  5. Organisational Responsibilities

1. Manage the delivery of our Social Prescribing services and the Macmillan Cancer Support funded services, directly line managing (five) staff.

  • Directly manage two Macmillan social prescribers
  • Ensure the effective and successful delivery of the services
  • Line manage a staff team as required, working within the agreed policies and procedures and in close liaison with AUKLS's HR team and Macmillan.
  • Maintain good financial control and effective management of staff and resources.
  • Monitor and evaluate program outcomes, preparing regular reports for stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the fundraising and communication strategy internally and externally and ensure its successful delivery involves the whole team
  • Creating a collaborative environment encourages knowledge sharing and synergy between different support services and organisation.
  • Oversee the implementation and ongoing development of the social prescribing program.
  • Ensure the project meets its targets and is regularly re-evaluated to meet the current demand and opportunities.

2. Encourage partnership working between the various Social Prescribing projects in Lewisham and have a strategic overview of Social Prescribing as a whole in the borough

  • Chair and organise a quarterly Social Prescribing Network meeting for Social Prescribing stakeholders
  • Contribute to the Social Prescribing Delivery Group and any other joint Social Prescribing projects in the borough
  • Work in close partnership with other Social Prescribing project Managers (working for other organisations) to ensure the consistency of the quality of service offered and facilitate referrers' and clients' experience

3. Supporting the effective engagement of stakeholders

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with healthcare providers, including GPs, oncologists, and Primary Care Network teams.
  • Liaise with Macmillan Cancer Support to ensure alignment with their goals and standards.
  • Develop and nurture partnerships with local community organisations and service providers.
  • Represent the social prescribing program at relevant meetings, conferences, and events.
  • Identify key referral agencies in the borough, promote the service to them and develop referral pathways to ensure that social prescribers receive the right referrals.

4. Strengthen and maintain key relationships and partnerships in Lewisham.

  • Support the development of our partnerships with the agencies we refer to and ensure that our partners work together.
  • Share the information directory CCL collects and updates with partners and the wider public through our website, newsletter, public events and other relevant means.
  • Identify and work with new potential funders and support and oversee the development of new social prescribing projects (ex: in secondary care).
  • Deputise for the AUKLS CEO Director of Lewisham services on occasion and by agreement.

5. Organisational Responsibilities

  • Provide a supportive working environment to all staff and volunteers
  • Contribute to the overall achievement of AUKLS mission and objectives
  • Ensure the values of AUKLS are upheld across the organisation
  • Actively support AUKLS in carrying out its aim to be an environmentally responsible organisation in carrying out day to day duties
  • Meet legislative and regulatory requirements
  • Actively contribute to organisation leadership team discussions and attend and participate in regular leadership team meetings
  • To participate in networking activity at local and national level, by agreement with the CEO
  • Attend staff and team meetings as requested
  • Undertake any other relevant duties as determined by the CEO or your Line Managers
