Head of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and dynamic individual to join us in this newly created role.
Working closely with the Assistant Director Customer, Communities and Inclusion, and the wider Corporate Leadership Group, you will lead on the development and implementation of the City of York Council's EDI agenda.
The role will be responsible for oversight of the delivery of the council's Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Strategy and embedding the newly designed Human Rights and Equalities Analysis Tool. You will also drive forward the implementation of the Anti-Racism Action Plan, Gypsy and Traveller Action Plan and the council's commitment to Social Model of Disability.
We are looking for someone who is an experienced leader in the EDI field, ideally with experience in a public sector organisation.
You must have an excellent knowledge of the equity, diversity and inclusion agenda, including key legislation and professional networks and strategies for eliminating racism, discrimination and exclusion.
You must have a proven record of developing strategy and frameworks in this field and of aligning strategies with wider business need.
The person we appoint should be a skilled communicatior who is adept at building relationships both internally, and with a wide range of partners and who has the ability to establish credibility at a senior level.

As this role is public facing, applicants will need to demonstrate, at interview, their competency to converse and provide advice and guidance to members of the public, in spoken English to CEFR level C1: Can express themselves fluently and spontaneously, almost effortlessly. Only a conceptually difficult subject can hinder a natural, smooth flow of language.
Hybrid working arrangements are available for this role. Each role at CYC is different and your working arrangements will be determined based on the requirements of the role and in collaboration with you and your needs as part of the recruitment process. Your contractual location will be the designated council office for your team.
