Job Description

Gretton Court is a community of high-quality retirement apartments located in Girton, just outside Cambridge. Originally developed to house retiring academics from Cambridge University, the appeal has widened over the years to include a much more diverse community of residents. At any time around 60 people live in a combination of studio, one and two bedroom apartments. As well as the attractive buildings, the Court is located in three acres of gardens. These assets, combined with a not-for-profit operating model and affordable rents, make it a highly desired amenity.

The trustees of Gretton Court now seek to recruit a General Manager who will oversee all the operations, with a broad remit spanning: oversight of the fabric, grounds and finances; leading the team of wardens and staff; managing contractor relationships; ensuring compliance with legislation, health & safety and organisational procedures/policies; serving as secretary to the Board of Trustees; and ensuring that the Court is promoted appropriately to potential residents. The role also has a significant relationship element, engaging at a personal level with new and established residents, and representing Gretton Court to wider stakeholders in the area.

Ideal candidates will have a generalist skillset, able to handle a wide range of operational content. Some experience of property management and finance would be ideal, although not absolutely essential. What is most important is the ability to take an applied and thoughtful approach, working with integrity, diligence and a keen eye to value-for-money. The appointee will have strong relationship development skills and will work constructively with residents, contractors, trustees, staff and other stakeholders.

The role is expected to be available on a .8 (4 day per week) basis and will attract a pro-rated salary of circa £60k, but there might be some flexibility for an exceptional candidate.
