Job Description

The House of Lords is the second chamber of the UK Parliament. It plays a vital role in UK society, scrutinising legislation, shaping policy, and holding our government to account. The effective operation of the House relies on a strong and capable executive team, ensuring the delivery of high-quality services that support parliamentary functions.

We are now seeking two exceptional individuals to join the Management Board of the House of Lords Administration as external members. This is a unique opportunity to provide independent advice, strategic insight, and constructive challenge to enhance the effectiveness of the Board's decision-making.

As an external member, you will contribute to the strategic oversight of the House of Lords Administration, providing independent scrutiny, insight, and expertise to support and challenge decisions. You will help ensure the effective management and delivery of services within the House and work collaboratively with senior leaders to enhance governance, performance, and operational efficiency.

We are looking for two individuals with outstanding personal and professional experience who can bring complementary skills and independent perspectives to the Board. One appointment is immediately available and the second in the autumn. Ideal candidates will have a proven track record of providing senior leadership as a non-executive in an organisation. Strong analytical skills, the ability to provide independent challenge and advice, and a commitment to public service and the principles of good governance are essential.

This role will be at the heart of helping us to deliver our new 5-year strategy and fulfil our purpose of supporting the UK's parliamentary democracy by delivering excellent services to the House of Lords and its members. If you have the expertise, insight, and time to support the House of Lords in delivering for members, colleagues and the public we would be delighted to hear from you.
