Job Description
Job title: Electrical Engineer-Authorised Person

Location: Barrow-in-Furness - On site

Salary: £40,748+ Depending on skills and experience

What you will be doing:
  • Manage and operate high-voltage (HV) electrical distribution systems under the authorisation of the Site Senior Authorised Person (SAP).
  • Issue and cancel safety documents for HV systems, ensuring all work is conducted safely and in compliance with regulations
  • Authorise and issue substation keys to nominated Responsible Persons while maintaining strict control over site access
  • Assess and approve switching programs for HV systems to guarantee safe and efficient operations
  • Keep accurate written records of all HV switching activities, including maintaining a personal HV Log Book
  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of more junior Engineers, HV Electricians, Ancillaries, and Contractors, ensuring alignment with the duty HV SAP's instructions
Your skills and experiences:
  • Hold a HNC or recognised Electrical Engineering Apprenticeship
  • Be Familiar with types of equipment, installations, and high voltage system line ups
  • Successfully completed a High Voltage Authorised Person initial training course (e.g AP15 or equivalent)

The High Voltage Engineering team:

The Site Specialist Engineering High Voltage Team plays a critical role in supporting the business by overseeing the control, operation, and maintenance of the site's high-voltage network. This team provides expert guidance on electrical standards and supports a broad range of electrical disciplines, offering opportunities to expand expertise in Low Voltage (LV), High Voltage (HV), Control & Instrumentation (C&I), and Communications.

No two days are the same-this dynamic role allows you to problem-solve, innovate, and apply your expertise to drive effective solutions. As the Barrow site infrastructure expands, you'll have the opportunity to contribute to the development of new facilities and play a key role in enhancing and modernising aging and existing electrical installations. Once established in role this position will be moving to a 3 on 4 off shift pattern for which you will receive shift allowance.

We offer relocation support packages across all Submarines roles, subject to meeting eligibility criteria.
