Job Description

The RSPCA is the world's oldest and largest animal protection organisation - inspiring everyone to create a better world for every animal. We investigate cruelty and rescue and rehabilitate animals through a network of hospitals, centres, branches and volunteers. Our advocacy has led to more than 400 laws protecting animals across various sectors.

We seek a new Director of Advocacy and Prevention to place animal welfare at the forefront of political, corporate, influencer, and public agendas. This role will shape decision-makers' views and support the RSPCA's strategy through effective advocacy and prevention initiatives.

The role of Director of Advocacy and Prevention will be central to our ambitions and our renewed focus on driving the most impact for the greatest number of animals.

You will lead the development and implementation of evidence-based advocacy that drives positive change for animals. Responsible for shaping the RSPCA's influencing strategy, you will guide policy development, public affairs, and campaigning across England, Wales, and internationally. Ensuring up-to-date knowledge and evidence on animal welfare, you will advocate for policies that drive informed decisions on animal welfare and service delivery.

You will have significant experience building relationships with stakeholders across government, industry and academia, and a proven ability to influence high-level policy decisions. You will have a strong understanding of law-making, party politics, and public affairs, with a track record of driving change in UK policy or legislation. You will also have spokesperson experience, a solid understanding of animal welfare issues and related legislation, and strong people management capabilities, including leading change and improvement within teams and organisations.
