The Royal Borough of Greenwich is recruiting to a new Deputy Principal Social Worker to lead and manage a team focused on outstanding practice and workforce development. In this leadership role you will support and be supported by the Principal Social Worker and Head of Practice Development. You will have an integral role in ensuring the highest standards of social work and social care practice across the Health and Adult Services directorate. You will be a champion of strength-based practice and promote a culture of continuous improvement in practice.

The Deputy Principal Social Worker role will be responsible for operationalising an effective approach to the quality assurance of practice and evidencing how well we are supporting our residents. This role will focus on continuous professional development of a range of qualified and registered social care staff through a robust learning and development offer. The role will support best practice and innovation and support the directorate as we prepare for CQC assurance.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Supporting recruitment and retention strategies and workforce planning by maintaining effective pathways/programmes to attract students, ASYE's, social workers and social work managers.
  • Embedding and ensuring effective supervision of social workers, occupational therapists and social care practitioners.
  • Supporting the development of Social Work, occupational therapists and social care career pathways through continuing professional development opportunities
  • Establishing regular staff practice forums to share best practice and embed strength-based working.
  • Promoting the annual social work/occupational therapy health check, analysing and reporting on key themes and actions for improvement.
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues across Adult Services working with partners to drive innovation, practice improvement and high quality service provision
  • Leading on the Workforce Racial Equality Standards pilot using findings to support the directorate's action plan and wider council's Equality Diversity and Inclusion objectives.

About you:

You'll have:

  • A degree in Social Work (or equivalent) and registered with Social Work England.
  • Extensive experience in adult social care, including experience in a management and supervisory role in adult social care teams.
  • Experience of quality assuring practice
  • Strong knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Care Act and Mental Capacity Act.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to influence, mentor and manage a team, driving excellence in social work/social care practice.
  • Ability to work effectively with operational managers and teams
  • Ability to use and harness the benefits of technology in social care practice
