Job Description

Santander Consumer Finance is one of the UK's Leading Motor Finance companies and we are now looking for a Data Privacy Manager to join the Data Governance team in this new pivotal role.

The Data Privacy Manager will be responsible for managing the company's data privacy initiatives, including developing and implementing data privacy policies, procedures, and standards, as well as ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and laws.

Please note this role is a hybrid role with at least 3 days a week in the Redhill office. Remote workers will not be considered.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Establish an appropriate operating model for Data Privacy within Santander Consumer UK, including risk management and reporting, control framework, appropriate committees/forums and training
  • Managing, remediating and preventing over-retention of data in Santander Consumer UK's systems
  • Implement and embed data privacy policies and standards within the company
  • Oversee the development and implementation of data privacy procedures
  • Manage the execution and maintenance of Santander Consumer UK's RoPA, LIA and DPIA activities
  • Implement data privacy training programs for staff
  • Maintenance of the Privacy Notices repository for Santander Consumer UK
  • Promoting, embedding and maintaining a culture of data privacy ownership and privacy risk management across the company
  • Contribute as a member of the Santander Consumer UK Data team to the smooth running and leadership of the department
  • Responsibility for the reporting and management of data minimisation and data retention activities within Santander Consumer UK
  • Project engagement, advice and guidance on Data Privacy as subject matter expert within the company to support the business in complying with data protection legislation and associated codes of practice
  • Adhering to our commitment to Consumer Duty ensuring we put our Customers' needs first and set higher and clearer standards of consumer protection

What we're looking for:

  • Proven experience in establishing a robust Data Privacy Operating Model, including leading the creation of a Data Privacy team from inception and designing a comprehensive operating framework for effective execution
  • Previous experience in management of data privacy within a Financial Services organisation
  • Strong practical managerial experience in data privacy roles with demonstrable experience of developing, implementing, managing and monitoring data privacy frameworks adapted to the organisation served
  • Strong experience in the management and maintenance of RoPA, LIAs and DPIAs
  • Excellent understanding of data privacy regulations and laws e.g. Data Protection Act 2018, UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Privacy & Electronic Communications Regulation (PECR); together with ICO guidance and codes of conduct
  • Strong understanding of risk management and control frameworks
  • Previous experience in delivering Data Privacy training and communication in an easily digestible manner to all levels of colleagues
  • Individual must be able to project credibility and expertise and able to influence senior leaders
  • Recognised data protection qualification such as ISEB, CIPM or CIPP/E
