Family Matters: Helping Children and Young People thrive in Stoke-on-Trent

Creating stable and loving homes for the children and young people of Stoke-on-Trent is the key foundation behind our drive to transform children and family services in our city. We have already overcome many challenges, and our improvement journey has not been without difficulty, but we have a renewed focus and approach based on a clear belief that families are the best place for children and young people to thrive.

Forged through an industrial past, Stoke-on-Trent is a city with creativity and kindness at its heart, where people have a genuine sense of identity and belonging. We are a hard-working city, determined to do better, and it is this ambition that drives us. We are taking a new direction in how we deliver services, focusing on prevention; empowering and enabling families. When it is necessary to intervene to keep children safe then our focus is on stability and, where possible, reunification.

We have strengthened the children and families' leadership team, implementing many innovative projects and restorative practice, including our nationally recognised Thrive at Five, Stoke Speaks Out, Catalyst and House projects. Our strong relationship with schools allows us to work in partnership to keep children safe, and means young people have a great opportunity to succeed in inclusive environments.

For our new Corporate Director of Children and Family Services, this is an excellent opportunity for a values driven leader to continue our journey, building upon a strong base, whilst having the freedom to make this a career defining role. We are seeking someone who really believes in the strength of families and the power of restorative practice, rooted in a strengths-based approach. We seek a leader who wants to be part of our city and our success story, where all children and young people can live well.
