Job Description

My client are seeking a dynamic and engaging Consultant Engagement Manager to join their Enterprise Consultancy and Services team initially on a 6-month Fixed Term Contract basis, though with the potential for longer. This role is pivotal in providing specialist expertise to academics, scoping and pricing consultancy opportunities, and promoting consultancy benefits within the academic community. The successful candidate will be instrumental in growing consultancy participation and ensuring commercial viability aligned with governance and legal structures.

Day to Day of the role:
  • Lead the provision of commercial mentorship to academics, developing market-priced consultancy proposals.
  • Identify and resolve potential governance issues, making recommendations for complex situations.
  • Increase consultant engagement and project numbers through proactive opportunity seeking and follow-up.
  • Coordinate with Contract Management to define contractual terms, protecting academics, the company, and College reputation.
  • Build and maintain excellent working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Represent the College's Consultancy perspective to external organisations and promote its profile.
  • Ensure new projects are financially viable and priced at market rate.
  • Engage consultants within legal/tax regulations and company governance.
  • Report activity and achievements to management and academic departments.
  • Provide specialist advice and guidance to academic staff, support services, and College management.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant business, scientific, or technological discipline.
  • Experience in relationship management, client engagement, and/or business development.
  • Ability to learn new technical subjects quickly to converse with experts across various technical areas.
  • Experience in managing a diverse portfolio of tasks and progressing opportunities to signed contracts.
  • Understanding of the academic environment and the differences between commercial and academic sectors.
  • Strong relationship development, communication skills, and a collaborative approach.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to identify competitive advantage and benefits.
  • Commercial acumen with experience in handling financial data and commercial matters.
  • Credibility with academics and external partners, with the ability to bridge industry and academia.
  • Self-directed with the ability to work with minimum supervision.
  • Well-developed presentation skills for senior audiences.
