Job Description

A champion organisation for human rights, committed to standing up for those who are being denied justice, truth, freedom and dignity, is looking for a 2-month temporary Community Organiser to assist their CORE team.

Key responsibilities for this post will include:

  • Building on the ongoing partnership with communities and partners, helping to build and diversify the organisation's movement throughout the UK.
  • Working with their Trade Union partners and other campaigning partners to identify and facilitate opportunities to enhance their impact, including developing plans to achieve their campaign and organisational objectives.
  • Recruiting, developing and supporting local/regional activist teams, advising and providing tools to develop plans for campaigns and activities relevant to the regional context.
  • Mentoring and supporting partners/activist leaders, aiding their development as organisers and defenders of human rights.
  • Maximising the use of appropriate communication channels including online and offline, to strengthen relationships and create audience focussed, accessible and engaging communications, events and materials in line with their movement to maximise Trade Union affiliation.
  • Ensuring that necessary data is accurately updated on the organisation's database to be used for further analysis, learning and training purposes.
  • Servicing and supporting the Trade Union network, their committees and other relevant groups to develop and execute plans in line with their movement strategy.
  • Facilitating and supporting relevant partner/activist Committees to identify and develop tactical and strategic campaigning partnerships, including working with defined Campaigning Communities Committees to enable engagement and participation of other affiliated groups, activists and supporters.
  • Using allocated budget parameters to design, manage and report on budgets.
  • Keep up to date knowledge of external developments in community organising, activism, campaigning and communications, using insights to test and encourage new activities and ideas to progress organisational objectives.

To be considered for this role you will have:

  • Worked in a similar post previously, or experience of successfully establishing, retaining and mobilising activist groups.
  • Understanding of and passion and commitment to human rights.
  • Experience within administrative support and event management, specifically community organising to affect change.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including confidence in public speaking to large groups.
  • Strong ability to network and maintain relationships with stakeholders (particularly unions), including due diligence, risk assessment and mitigation and mediation of complaints.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team-building skills.
  • Understanding of and commitment to Equality and Diversity.

This position is being offered on a temporary basis, to start as soon as possible, so you will need to be available immediately or have a short notice period to be considered.
