Job Description

Charity People is partnering with a charity to recruit a Communications Manager to join their team.

Committed to supporting those diagnosed with ovarian cancer and their families, the charity provides dedicated help and information. They're also determined to ensure that health inequalities are identified and addressed whilst working with the public and professionals to recognise the signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer.

As Communications Manager you'll be heading a small, passionate team of two staff members to strategically manage the charity's external communications, brand and public image.

Communications Manager

Contract: 12 months - the role is offered on a full (35 hours per week) or part time (28 hours per week) basis with lots of flexibility around working hours and location
Salary: £40,003 - £45,502
Location: Hybrid between the London office and home or homeworking with occasional travel to the office.
Benefits: 25-day annual leave entitlement (excluding Bank Holidays; 33 days per year total). Monthly external clinical supervision. Training budget. Flexible working on a TOIL system.

Second stage interviews: Wednesday 29th January, held in person, travel costs will be reimbursed

Joining as Communications Manager you will support migration to a new website, be involved with celebrity ambassador engagement and continue the charity's growing engagement from their increasingly diverse community of supporters and service users.

Core responsibilities within your role will be to:

Work with other staff (cross organisation) to agree a communications strategy to meet audiences' needs and increase reach, acquisition and retention of service users and supporters
Plan and deliver high quality and timely communications driven by organisational mission and goals, and manage communications projects from start to end, including planning, delivery and evaluation.
Track performance on all communications channels, measure impact and suggest alterations to the approach. Evaluate and report to trustees on owned activities and results
Create engaging and relevant content for web, social media and email marketing, as well as paid channels
Ensure content meets standards defined for consistent user experience, accessibility, brand, and SEO optimisation
Help to manage any issues arising that may affect the reputation of the charity.
Develop contact strategy regarding communications with stakeholders.
Work across the team to source and manage case studies from the ovarian cancer communities
Lead on work with external agencies to place press articles and develop the charity's capacity and processes to better manage this work moving forward
Support the Communications and Engagement team to commission, brief and manage external providers such as photographers, designers, printers and SEO consultants
Work across the Communications and Engagement team to ensure consistently high-quality design, assets and materials are produced in house
Recruit, induct and manage members of the communications and engagement team, delegating responsibility for key tasks in the team workplan
Brief and manage a number of contractors and agencies providing specialist services to the charity
Lead other communications team members through performance management and development processes, setting targets, providing feedback, and planning development within their roles

We would love to hear from you if you have the following skills and experience:

Experience of managing communications across multiple platforms
Experience of managing staff
Experience of working across a team and with contractors to populate content and launch a new website, including a working knowledge of SEO optimisation
Demonstrable experience of strategic communications planning, media relations and stakeholder relations
Experience of commissioning and managing external contractors
Knowledge of a broad range of communications and marketing techniques (web, SEO, SEM, events, email, social media, PR)
Ability to translate complex information into plain English
Strong project management skills, ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines

Demonstrable experience of building effective relationships with a wide range of stakeholders and organisations
