Job Description

Would you like to help build, scale and operate a platform to support a product that you (and everyone you know) will use? The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency's (DVLA) and Inspire People are partnering to bring you an exciting opportunity for a Cloud Engineer to join an agile Cloud team at the forefront of digital services to build and support the platform for DVLA's cloud-first applications. You will use modern tools to leverage a cloud-first approach using AWS and Azure technologies. £37,733 plus excellent Civil Service benefits and 28.8% employer pension contribution. As an Engineer in one of the Cloud teams, you'll get to work across a wide range of systems and environments. As a team, you will be responsible for designing, building, and operating cloud infrastructure on AWS and/or Azure. DVLA are constantly investing in their Cloud Platform so their application teams can build scalable, secure, and resilient systems, capable of supporting millions of transactions for UK Citizens. DVLA's delivery squads follow a DevOps model and are responsible for the full life cycle of their product.

Technology:

You will get to work with a lot of exciting new technology, we get to trial multiple products and choose the best. These are some of the tools and technologies you will be using:

  • EKS and AWS lambda (nodejs): to run our services
  • Orgformation: to manage our AWS landing zone
  • Instana: to monitor everything
  • ArgoCD: to deploy our applications
  • Azure EntraID: for our identities
  • Elastic: to ship our logs
  • Cloudformation/Terraform: for all of our Infrastructure code
  • Pagerduty: to alert

Responsibilities

Developing code to meet user needs

  • Following best-practice guidelines and help to improve those guidelines
  • Writing clean, secure and well tested code
  • Operating the services they build and identifying issues in production

Essential skills:

It is essential that you have some technical expertise across the full SDLC collaborating with multiple teams. This experience can be in the shape of Software Development, DevOps, Platform Engineering, Cloud Engineering, SRE or similar and experience from personal projects will be considered.

  • Delivery of cloud-based services using modern tools in any capacity, experience can be from industry, personal projects or educational
  • Comfortable using modern CI/CD tooling and a DevOps approach
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code with CloudFormation/Terraform
  • Comfortable working in a team that deals with ambiguity
  • Interested in distributing systems and writing resilient code
  • Passion for cloud and modern technology
  • Experience working within Agile Delivery Teams (preferred)
