We are looking for a Chair of Governors (volunteering role)
GOSH school has sites both at Great Ormond Street Hospital and University College Hospital, providing an excellent education to 2-19 year olds.
This is an exciting opportunity to make a difference for our children and be part of our continuing journey.
Join our dedicated governing board and make a lasting impact on our hospital school. As Chair, you will lead, inspire, and guide our team to provide exceptional education and support to children with medical needs.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee board meetings and decision-making
- Ensure effective governance and accountability
- Support the headteacher and senior leadership team, being a 'critical friend'
- Represent the school in the wider community
Skills/ Attributes needed:
Candidates should be able to demonstrate a good selection of the skills/attributes set out below:
- Strong commitment to the school's ethos and principles
- Strong desire to improve the educational outcomes for children with medical needs
- Strong commitment to Equity

- Good understanding of the environment in which the school is operating and wider education policy
- Understanding of the challenges faced by children with medical needs

- Good understanding of the legal responsibilities of the Governing Body

- Ability to think strategically
- Ability to prioritise
- Ability to chair meetings well

- Capacity to process information quickly and understand relevant data
- Ability to delegate
Experience needed/desired:
The ideal candidate will have:
- Experience of chairing meetings (not necessarily as school governor)
- Successfully led a team
- Experience of the education/health sectors
- Experience of effective public relations
