Job Description

The Loss Foundation, the UK's only cancer bereavement charity, is seeking a dedicated and strategic Chair of the Board to help guide our next phase of growth.

About Us
The Loss Foundation provides free specialist support to those grieving the loss of a loved one to cancer. Our work ensures that no one has to navigate bereavement alone. As we expand our reach and impact, we are looking for a Chair who can help shape our vision, strengthen governance, and drive sustainable growth.

About the Role
As Chair, you will lead our committed Board of Trustees, ensuring effective governance, strategic oversight, and support for our CEO. You will play a key role in shaping the charity's future, fostering partnerships, and championing our cause. This is an exciting opportunity to make a lasting impact on a small but ambitious organisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership to the Board, ensuring effective decision-making and governance.
  • Work closely with the CEO to support and challenge strategy, ensuring sustainability and growth.
  • Strengthen relationships with key stakeholders, including funders and partners.
  • Support fundraising and advocacy efforts to increase awareness and financial resilience.
  • Ensure the charity remains compliant with legal and regulatory requirements.

About You
We are looking for someone with:

  • Experience chairing a Board or serving at a senior governance level.
  • A track record of growing and strengthening grassroots organisations.
  • Strong strategic and leadership skills, with the ability to guide and support a small but dedicated team.
  • Passion for mental health, bereavement support, or cancer-related causes.

This is a voluntary role with an estimated commitment of 4-6 hours per month, including quarterly Board meetings.
