The Role

As an Assistant Ombudsman you will be a leader, responsible for ensuring that your team of investigators delivers high quality, timely investigations against challenging objectives. Our work is underpinned by our principles of independence, impartiality and fairness, focusing on remedying injustice to individuals and improving public services. You will also be a member of the Leadership Team, working collaboratively to promote, lead and contribute to projects and initiatives across the organisation and making a significant contribution to service and policy development. You will play an important role in representing LGSCO externally through contact at a senior level with bodies we investigate, as well as other external stakeholders across the public and voluntary sectors.

The Profile

You will have a strong track record of leading teams and managing people and performance as well as a good knowledge of local government and/or adult social care. You will have the knowledge and experience to be able to advise on the investigation of complaints. You will also have excellent interpersonal skills and will have a pragmatic and solutions-focused approach, great communication skills and enthusiasm.

You will need to demonstrate the confidence, credibility and ability to work with senior leaders internally and externally to strategic priorities and performance objectives.

Location

We offer hybrid working and, subject to manager approval, an Assistant Ombudsman can choose to work mostly from home. Individuals will be allocated to either our Coventry or York offices and be expected to attend the office as and when required in person for staff supervisions, team meetings, training and other occasions.
