Job Description
Job Title: Chef

Location: Huddersfield HD4

Job Type: Part-time (28.5 hours per week, including alternate weekends)

Salary: TBC

Job Summary:

We are looking for a dedicated and experienced Chef to work in a nursing home, ensuring the preparation of nutritious, well-balanced meals for residents. This role requires someone who understands the dietary needs of elderly individuals, including soft diets, diabetic-friendly meals, and allergen management. The ideal candidate will be able to work independently while maintaining high food hygiene and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Plan, prepare, and cook nutritious meals tailored to residents' dietary requirements.
  • Ensure all meals are well-presented, appetizing, and meet health and safety standards.
  • Work within set meal plans while also adapting menus to residents' preferences and needs.
  • Maintain a clean and hygienic kitchen, following food safety regulations and infection control policies.
  • Monitor food stock levels, manage inventory, and place supply orders when necessary.
  • Ensure proper storage, labeling, and handling of ingredients to minimize waste.
  • Comply with health and safety policies, including allergen management and special dietary requirements.
  • Collaborate with care staff to accommodate residents' specific dietary needs.
Requirements:
  • Previous experience as a Chef/Cook in a care home, healthcare, or catering setting (preferred).
  • Understanding of elderly nutrition and special dietary requirements.
  • Food Hygiene Certificate (Level 2 or 3) and knowledge of HACCP regulations.
  • Ability to work independently and manage kitchen operations efficiently.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • A caring and patient approach when working in a residential care environment.
