Advanced Aerodynamics Methods & Tools Engineer (d/f/m)

Aerodynamics is responsible for the aerodynamic design and characterization for all military aircraft programs along their product life cycle. We use numerical simulations, wind tunnel testing and flight test to understand the aerodynamic behavior and to create and deliver aircraft representative aerodynamic data and models for stability & control, performance, loads and aeroelastics. Besides, we give support to the production in terms of assessing the aerodynamic impact of non-conformities, repairs plus in-service incidents.

Your tasks and responsibilities

  • Application and development of software for the simulation and analysis of compressible turbulent flows around high and low aspect ratio aircraft
  • Emphasis is placed on the development of innovations for industrial applications within reasonable timeframes, not fundamental research
  • Analysis of aerodynamic shapes by numerical and theoretical methods & tools for the development of high and low aspect ratio A/C, including scale-resolving numerical simulations
  • Deliver aerodynamic solutions and data to the customer on time, on cost and on quality
  • Cooperate with all disciplines relevant for physics of flight such as structures, loads, flight dynamics, mass, etc.
  • Continuous improvement of the aerodynamic software tool chains by developing S/W scripts based on prescribed requirements
  • Development and support of software for the mathematical modelling of the aerodynamic aircraft characteristics (aero dataset)
  • Link with the external research community in the field of aerodynamic methods & tools, in consistence with the company strategy


Desired skills and qualifications

  • Higher education in numerical mathematics, aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, or equivalent
  • Three or more years of professional experience in numerical simulation
  • Applied skills in Python, C, C++
  • Strong desire to work, learn and grow as part of a high-performing team


Experience and interest in one or more of the following fields is stipulated:
  • Linear and Non-Linear iterative solvers
  • Discretization methods for partial differential equations
  • Turbulent flows and turbulence modelling
  • Mesh generation
  • Proficiency in code development in large software environments designed for usage on massively parallel clusters is advantageous
  • Application of the complete tool chain for high fidelity CFD simulations in order to execute simulations of compressible flow around high performance aircraft

  • Ability to integrate into a dynamic team of aerodynamic specialists
  • Ability to concisely summarize and present complex aerodynamic findings and correlations
  • Ability to prioritize technical solutions in order to balance with economic constraints
  • Minimum language skills: negotiation level in English; good German skills are advantageous
