Job Description

Women's Professional Leagues Limited (WPLL) has taken over responsibility for the Barclays Women's Super League and Barclays Women's Championship from the FA. Each club participating in these leagues will act as a shareholder in the new company. The completion of the agreement spearheads a new era in the sport, dedicated to driving growth and maximising potential, placing players and fans at its core.

Led by CEO Nikki Doucet, the new company is founded on a new vision and mission to transform women's football by building the most distinctive, competitive and entertaining women's football club competition in the world for the players and fans of today and tomorrow.

Role Purpose

Overall responsibility for the Financial Planning, Reporting and Operations of WPLL ensuring efficient and effective financial management.

To work closely with the COO and Business Management team to ensure effective transition from the FA processes and systems to establishing independent, efficient, and effective processes for the Women's Professional Leagues Ltd (WPLL) including but not limited to: Financial Operations and Reporting, Treasury, Tax, Audit, Payroll. To be responsible for monthly Internal financial reporting and management and annual budgeting and forecasting cycles.

Key Accountabilities

Financial Planning, Operations and Reporting:

  • To build and develop an internal effective framework for the WPLL and ensure financial controls and measures are at the heart of business decision making.
  • To work closely with the Head of Digital Products on internal system requirements to assist in effective and efficient reporting for WPLL.
  • Ensure that high quality management information is available to make the best decisions for the WPLL, including the production of monthly management accounts, cash flow and balance sheet.
  • Ownership and development of the planning cycles, responsible for the end-to-end process, setting the timetable, agreeing scope and deliverables, consolidating the results, reviewing the preparing shareholder and board financial papers.
  • To analyse financial information for presentation internally and externally and with key stakeholders to inform decision making and development of the leagues and game.
  • Track and report progress against financial targets and return on investment.

Treasury & Tax:

  • Continuous improvement of the company's short term cash flow forecasting.
  • Monitor and report on covenant compliance where applicable.
  • To work with external accountancy firms where applicable to support the business-related affairs.

Auditing:

  • Ensure effective implementation of all internal audit control points.
  • Manage annual independent auditing process.
  • Oversee the preparation of WPLL Audit Committee papers, ensuring they are prepared to a high standard.

Payroll:

  • To oversee the transition from FA Payroll to WPLL management payroll including benefits.

General:

  • Executes additional tasks as required to meet the changing needs of the WPLL.
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures to ensure the highest standards of health, safety and wellbeing can maintained.
  • As part of football's commitment to ensuring a safe environment is created for everyone in the game, every employee will be required to complete a DBS check. The level of the check required is based on the activity of the specific job role and in line with legislation and government guidance.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA or equivalent)
  • Advanced use of Microsoft Office
  • Experience of model building and improvement
  • Significant experience in a senior finance role with experience across all aspects of finance function with a focus on financial controls
  • Possess the drive, knowledge and technical expertise to continually improve, with measurable success in effecting a business modernisation and transformation
