What it's like to work here

Reporting to the Property Operations Manager, you'll be working in a team of Visitor Experience Officers, at Fountains Abbey & Studley Royal as well as some work at Brimham Rocks.

Providing a great visitor experience and looking after this special place is at the heart of what we do, and we're passionate about getting the details right. Whether you're giving our visitors a warm welcome, caring for our buildings or collections or improving conditions for wildlife, every contribution ensures that nature, beauty and history continues to thrive at this special place.

We're a busy and complex property, welcoming over 400,000 visitors every year with ambitious plans to develop our visitor experience as we work towards our 900th anniversary in 2032.

What you'll be doing

As Visitor Experience Officer, your main focus will be on providing a great service for visitors. With the visitor experience team, you'll be welcoming people and inspiring them to really get to know Fountains Abbey & Studley Royal. This might include helping make our places accessible for everyone, finding ways of bringing the place, and its stories, to life. You'll be supporting our events and activities, and you might be supervising volunteers and organising rotas. You're likely to be checking standards of presentation on site, helping to write signage, as well as looking after some of our core interpretation spaces.

As a member of the Duty Management team at both Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal as well as Brimham Rocks, you'll be responsible for the day-to-day opening, working closely with the staff and volunteer team to ensure our visitors have an enjoyable and safe experience.

This is a fast-paced role and requires self-management and organising of resources.

  • a hard-working and committed team player
  • comfortable with IT: Microsoft Office, as well as web and social media
  • experienced in producing interpretive materials, such as displays and exhibitions, and marketing or promotional materials
  • familiar with health and safety procedures
