SQL Analyst

Database Engineer (12-Month Contract, Cardiff, South Wales)

We're seeking a skilled Database Engineer with a strong foundation in SQL and data analytics to join a team in Cardiff, South Wales. This is an initial 12-month contract opportunity offering £225 - £250 per day (Inside IR35 and paid through an umbrella company)

This role can be almost fully remote except for an initial 1-2 weeks onsite in Cardiff so it would be good if Cardiff is just about commutable for you.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, query, and manage databases to ensure performance, security, and reliability.
• Conduct detailed data analytics to generate insights and support business objectives.
• Collaborate with development teams to integrate database solutions with applications.
• Apply basic virtualization knowledge to manage and optimize system resources.
• Troubleshoot database issues, ensuring minimal downtime and data integrity.

Essential Skills & Experience:

• Strong proficiency in SQL and database querying.
• Knowledge of data modelling, ETL processes, and database performance tuning.
• Familiarity with database technologies such as Oracle, MySQL, or PostgreSQL.
• Understanding of virtualization technologies like VMware or Hyper-V.
• Experience in a secure environment, with SC clearance (or willingness to obtain).

Desirable Skills, not essential at all:

• Knowledge of Scripting languages (eg, Python, Shell) for automation.
• Hands-on experience with data visualization tools (eg, Power BI, Tableau).
• Experience with database backup, recovery, and security best practices.
