UKTelecommunications Laboratory(UKTL)

Led by the Department forScience, Innovation and Technology, the UK Telecoms Lab (UKTL),announced in October 2022, will give the UK the cutting-edgetechnology to keep our telecommunications networks safe, acceleratethe roll-out of 5G,and grow our brilliant telecoms sector bybringing in new entrants to diversify the supply chainmarket.

Successfulcandidates will have a unique experience working on or supportingthe latest ground-breaking cyber security and networkingtechnologies on a national and international scale. Thisopportunity will allow those involved to have first-hand exposureto the latest technologies via the research and development that weare undertaking to secure our telecommunications networks, in orderto keep the UK the safest place to live and do business online. Italso gives exposure to senior government department officials,communications industry leaders and academic professionals, all keystakeholders in the work of UKTL as you help UKTLs leaders tocoordinate meetings and briefings.

As a trusted and independent nationalcapability, the UKTL will interact at the intersection of standardsbodies, such as 3GPP, the National Cyber Security Centre and thewider UK intelligence community, academia, Ofcom, as well asCommunications Service Providers and telecommunication equipmentvendors.

What you could be doing forus:

  • Responsible for the software development lifecycle ofbespoke UKTL tooling.
  • Leverage your experience and skills to assistUKTL teams in establishing the best architecture for products andservices.
  • Provide technical expertise on software developmentacross teams in the UKTL.
  • Developing CLI and web applications using moderninterpreted and compiled programming languages, debugging &troubleshooting, IDE & OS Basics, test driven development,clean code & refactoring, version control, CI / CD, alerting& monitoring, Functional & Non-FunctionalTesting.
  • Highperformance application design and development in C++, Python andrelated languages.
  • Conduct security research and develop solutions for 5Gnetworks, including creating and testing prototypes in bothfronthaul and backhaul environments.
  • Work with the latest high-end telecommunicationshardware and performancemachines.
  • Contribute to advancing security in cutting-edgetelecommunications technologies and developing robust solutions forhigh-performance systems.
  • Working with latest and high-performancetechnologies.
  • Successful Applicants must be able to commute to theUKTL offices in Birmingham with the possibility of hybridworking.
