Serious Violence Officer

Thisrole sits within the Community Safety Service in Richmond and Wandsworth Council and reports directly into the Community Safety Partnership Board.If you are looking to champion local voices, deliver projects, work with new and dynamic legislation, and strengthen the response to serious violence, then this could be the role for you.
We are looking for someone who understand the importance of the Serious Violence Duty and wider project work in the tackling of serious violence across Richmond and Wandsworth.
This is a fixed term post for 12 months funded through the MOPAC Violence Reduction Unit.
The role will work across the Richmond and Wandsworth services and provide insight and knowledge on issues of serious violence.The post-holder will focus on contextual interventions to ensure spaces and places in the borough remain safe for all residents, particularly those areas which are disproportionately affected by violent crime.
The post-holder will also manage the several projects in Richmond and Wandsworth funded through the Mayor's Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC) and the Violence Reduction Unit (VRU).This post requires strong project management skills, assisting the team to manage several key projects through contract management. The project work is key to a comprehensive response to serious violence in the borough.It will also be expected that the post-holder will manage and track finances within the serious violence work stream.
The successful candidate will be expected to work with a variety of agencies to outline and maintain clear referral pathways for victims and perpetrators of violence.This will include maintaining strong relationships with relevant partners to ensure partnership working across multiple agencies.This post will also requirestrong administrative skills to support the Richmond and Wandsworth, Violence Strategic Delivery Group and Communities Against Violence Forums.
The Serious Violence Officer's work will be supported by the Serious Violence Manager.
This is a full-time role for 36 hours per week for the rest of the fixed term duration.The post holder will be expected to work flexibly across two locations(Wandsworth Town Hall and Richmond Civic Centre) aswell as having working from home arrangements.
Essential Qualifications, Skills and Experience
- An excellent understanding of serious violence issues affecting communities, particularly in Richmond and Wandsworth, along with knowledge of the powers and strategies available to address these challenges.
- An understanding of the Serious Violence Duty legislation and the critical role of local authorities in its implementation.
- Knowledge of the function and importance of multi-agency meetings in responding to and preventing serious violence.
- Proven experience in building trusted, effective relationships with service providers, voluntary and community sector organizations, and statutory partner agencies.
- Excellent project management skills, including the delivery and oversight of initiatives.This includes setting clear objectives, effective communication, and regular reporting to ensure successful outcomes.
- Strong administrative skills with a provenability to communicate effectively at all levels, both verbally and in writing. Demonstrable experience of writing reports, taking minutes, and project bids.
