Are you a Senior Veterinary Surgeon looking for a contract where your work truly matters to our beloved people and pets? Or maybe you are already working at Blue Cross as a Veterinary Surgeon and are looking for a development opportunity to further develop your skills as a Senior Veterinary Surgeon? If the answer to either of these questions is a yes, then look no further!

We re recruiting for a Senior Veterinary Surgeon to join Grimsby animal hospital. Blue Cross hospitals provide veterinary treatment for animals belonging to those people whose financial circumstances do not allow them to afford private veterinary care. The range of work our fantastic teams carry out goes above and beyond what is offered in first opinion private practice, and we offer a high-quality working environment with extensive onsite facilities including digital X-Ray, ultrasound, and endoscopy, we pride ourselves on offering an excellent level of care to our patients and their owners.

More about the role

We have a vacancy for a Senior Veterinary Surgeon to join the fantastic team at our Grimsby animal hospital. Applicants must be MRCVS and have demonstrable experience in a small animal practice. Many of our vets hold certificates or have special interests and are more than happy to share their knowledge and help you develop your clinical skills. Our hospitals see a high caseload of emergency and critical care cases, both surgical and medical, so good knowledge within those areas is essential.

We are looking for a vet with a caring attitude to animals and owners who will be able to communicate well with colleagues and clients. Together with our Senior Vet team you will be responsible for recruitment and effective line management of our team of vets, holding regular, supportive 1:1s and performance reviews. You will be supported by the Head Veterinary Surgeon, with whom you will be working closely.

Blue Cross has developed an award-winning set of clinical guidelines to assist our vets in pragmatic, evidence-based decision making, where patient welfare is a priority. High standards are important to us but so is the ability to reflect openly on cases, within a safe, non-judgmental environment.

We recognise that we work within a profession where compassion fatigue is a risk to us all. We have wellbeing champions and Mental Health First Aiders at all hospitals, coordinating a range of initiatives and promoting a culture of openness and support within the team.

This is a full-time role working 40 hours per week on a rota to include weekends and public holidays.

For Veterinary Surgeons joining us at our Grimsby Animal Hospital, we offer a one-off £2,500 Recruitment & Retention Allowance, £1,250 included in the first, monthly salary payment and £1,250 on successful completion of probation.
